The Chilton County Schools Transportation Department has several bus drivers that are retiring this year.
This included Jerry Deavers (5 years of service), Kathy Deavers (28 years of service), Rhonda Gray (25 years of service), Nell Mims (30 years of service), Tommy Lenoir (24 years of service), Greg Moore (20 years of service), Jackie Parker (32 years of service), Charles Slaughter (18 years of service), Mary Slaughter (15 years of service), Robin Wilson (28 years of service) and Ronnie Wise (8 years of service).
“While sometimes it may feel like driving a school bus is an unappreciated job, the staff at the
transportation department knows otherwise,” Glen Johnson of the Transportation Department said.
The department wanted to honor the retirees for their hard work, especially during the pandemic. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a party to celebrate the retiring drivers was not permissible. Coming up with a way to acknowledge each one of them proved to be quite a task, but Tim and Glenda from C &C Trophy willingly sponsored the project by giving them a model school bus with their bus number and years of service listed.
“We have had numerous men and women dedicate many years to transporting students to and from school but now feel it’s time to close this chapter,” Johnson said. “If you see one of these men or women listed below please thank them for a job well done.
