For anyone looking to go fishing and win some money, there is an event on May 29 that should be circled on the calendar.
Mineral Springs Baptist Church is holding the 18th Annual Lay Lake Open Freshwater Fishing Tournament.
The event will be held at the Beeswax Boat Ramp in Shelby County. Registration is open to anyone that wants to take part. However, one has to bring their own boat to be able to participate.
Registration begins at 3:30 a.m., and the event itself will get started at 5:15 a.m. Participants will be able to fish until 2:30 p.m. and both breakfast and lunch will be served on-site.
There are cash prizes for the top finishers in the Lay Lake Open. There is a $3,000 top prize for the person that has the heaviest weight total of fish. The rest of the top 10 finishers will all receive some form of a cash prize as well. Other prizes will be given out during the event.
In order to take part, one can either show up and register or contact DJ McGaughy, the youth pastor at Mineral Springs Baptist Church. McGaughy is in charge of the event and can be reached at 205-937-8031. McGaughy can also be contacted for any questions about the event.
