The Chilton County Board of Education held a quick voting session on May 18, approving personnel measures in preparation for the coming school year.
The board unanimously approved hiring two teachers, one for Jemison Middle School and one for Clanton Elementary School; a counselor for Jemison Intermediate; and five substitutes.
Summer learning camp teachers were approved with board member Lori Patterson abstaining from the vote.
Five leave requests were also approved. However, one leave request was removed from the list because the reason for the request had not been outlined in the board’s meeting packet. During a work session prior to the voting meeting, President Pam Price expressed concern at this. CCS Superintendent Jason Griffin said details of the request could be discussed in an executive session during the voting session. Price said the employee had already been on leave for a year.
Other members of the board agreed with removing the request from the agenda.
Voting on contracts for interventionists for next school year was also removed from the agenda.
Two Clanton Elementary School teachers received approval of their retirement, while another CES teacher resigned. A Chilton County High School teacher also resigned.
