The Chilton County Board of Education began filling needed positions for next school year during its May 3 meeting.

This special-called meeting is one of three meetings the board will have this month. Hiring is expected to be a major topic at each.

The board approved three teachers for Chilton County High School, a teacher for Clanton Intermediate School, a teacher for Jemison High School (pending receiving certification paperwork), two teachers for Verbena High School, two teachers for Jemison Elementary and two teachers for Maplesville High School.

The board also accepted the resignation of Clanton Elementary School teacher Tonya Crumpton.

A local school bookkeeper liaison was hired to work at Central Office, and a special education assistant was hired for Jemison Elementary.

The next meeting of the Chilton County Board of Education will be a work session at 5 p.m. on May 18 at Chilton County High School, followed by the annual public comment meeting, which allows the audience to address the board. Any other time, individuals are required to call Central Office and get on the agenda in order to speak during a meeting.

A voting session will follow the public comment time at 6 p.m.
