The Thorsby Town Council approved a motion to purchase a new tractor for the town in a meeting on May 3.
The motion was approved unanimously.
The council debated whether it would be in their best interest to just purchase a new tractor or to buy a used one. Buying a used one would cost less as it was priced at $14,900. With buying a new tractor, however, the council will have to beat out any bid that is over $15,000. Had the town council bought a used tractor they wouldn’t have to bid it out.
The tractor owned by the town of Thorsby is broken down, and the council is unable to get parts for it. In the meantime, the town has been using a tractor rented from Peach Automotive in Clanton.
Also discussed at the meeting was possibly changing the proposed draft of a new employee manual. The change would be in how much vacation time is acquired in certain periods of time for town employees.
