Angie Sanderson resigned from the Chilton County Board of Education during a meeting on April 26.

Her resignation will be effective April 30.

Sanderson tearfully read her letter of resignation during the meeting.

“I love Chilton County and its school system, and I have always enjoyed serving my community,” Sanderson said. “… I will forever be grateful for all that I have experienced and learned through this opportunity. At this time, I feel that it is in the best interest of my son and myself to resign from my board member position. This is a decision that has been prayed over diligently and I believe it is time to step away.”

Sanderson had served as president of the board, prior to current Board President Pam Price.

Sanderson had been elected in 2018 to a six-year term.

“Thank you for all you have done,” Superintendent Jason Griffin said.

Sanderson is the second member to resign from the Chilton County Board of Education during this term of office. The first was Brian Jackson. To fill the vacancy, the board took applications for the position, and then appointed Brad Carter to the position.

The Board of Education did not discuss how it would appoint someone to Sanderson’s seat during the April 26 meeting, but it will likely come up in the near future.

The next Board of Education meeting is a special called meeting on May 3 to discuss and approve personnel.
