Athlete of the week

This week’s athlete of the week is Billingsley baseball pitcher Shane Shirah. Shirah threw a no-hitter on March 24 over Loachapoka High School to help lead the Bears to a dominant 12-0 victory.
Besides one fielding error, no base runners reached for Loachapoka, as Shirah threw all five innings in the win. He gave up zero hits and zero walks while striking out six hitters.
Shirah was also the offensive leader for the team, hitting 3-for-4 in the game with a double and three RBIs. He helped the Bears score nine runs in the second inning of the win, a 12-run performance overall.
Honorable Mention: Marlie Giles, CCHS softball
Last week’s athlete of the week is this week’s runner-up as Giles once again had a dominant week for the CCHS softball team.
While playing in the Gulf Shores Softball Tournament on March 22 and March 23, Giles went a combined 10-for-13, racking up eight RBIs while also hitting four home runs. She also walked four times.
The dominant offensive performance helped the Lady Tigers to four wins in the six games they played in the tournament.
