Organizers of the Relay For Life of Chilton County have announced fundraiser and remembrance events for this year’s campaign.

The West End Baptist Relay Team will celebrate survivors, remember those who are no longer here and acknowledge those currently fighting cancer with its luminaria event on Feb. 28 at 6 p.m.

“Luminarias will be available for $2 each or 3 for $5, the night of the service. We will be selling luminarias after each church service for those at the church. The church requests that face masks are worn and that everyone follow CDC regulations for social distancing,” according to the event’s Facebook page.

New for this year is a Trees of Hope event planned for Peach Park.

Relay For Life of Chilton County committee member Amy Jolley said the event was inspired by the Christmas tree walk through that Peach park hosted in December 2020.

“We were just trying to come up with some different things to do this year for Relay,” Jolley said.

When the business was approached about partnering, they agreed. There are 55 spots available.

Registration is required to participate and can be completed here.   (More information about the event is available on the Relay For Life Trees of Hope homepage) Deadline to register is March 31.

A $25 donation for the American Cancer Society is also required.

Jolley said she hopes there will be good participation to raise money for the services and research of the American Cancer Society

Since the trees are required to have a cancer-related theme, it is also an opportunity for businesses, groups and individuals to get involved in cancer awareness or honor a cancer survivor. Jolley said a tree could also be decorated in memory of someone who died from cancer.

According to information from the event page, trees to be decorated are being provided by Peach Park, but participants are also welcome to bring their own trees.

Participates will also need to string lights on their trees. LED lights and an outdoor extension cord are recommended.

Times available for decorating are March 31-April 2 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Trees are to be completed by 5:30 p.m. on April 2. The trees will remain on display with opportunities for viewing during Peach Park’s business hours through May 3.

Paper and glass ornaments should be avoided. For more recommendations, visit the “Relay For Life of Chilton County, Alabama” Facebook page and click on “Events.”

Relay for Life will be held on May 1 at Peach Park at 8:30 p.m.
