Dr. Annella Rowell Trobaugh Smith, age 87, of Clanton, Alabama passed away on
Friday, Jan. 22, 2021 at 4:50 p.m. after a sudden illness.
Annella was born on July 27, 1933 in Wetumpka, Alabama to Grady and Adrin
Morris Rowell. She was married to Reverend Johnnie Doyle Trobaugh for 53 years.
She received her undergraduate degree from Huntingdon College and her Master’s
and PhD degrees from the University of Alabama.
Annella was a maker of friends. Her children will tell you that she would gather, on
holiday occasions, the many friends from all parts of the world and make them true
family members. Often at these holiday occasions, the house had more friends than
our own family because that was her loving, Christian way of life and it inspired all
she met to do the same. She loved the United Methodist Church and SIFAT (Servants
in Faith and Technology).
Surviving are her daughters: Kathryn Trobaugh (Rusty) Crouthers of Randolph,
Alabama, Marrianne Trobaugh (Danny) Sloan of Montgomery, Alabama; son, John Drewry Trobaugh of Birmingham, Alabama; brother, Grady (Celestra) Rowell; grandchildren: John Caleb (Amanda) Dean, Daniel Jacob (Melissa) Sloan and John Paul Sloan, great-grandchildren: Lilly Grace Dean, Valerie Antoinette Sloan and Alexander Jacob Sloan, and Cheryl Jones, friend and caretaker, PDP and the boys.
She was preceded in death by her father, Grady C. Rowell; her mother, Adrin Morris
Rowell; her husbands: Reverend Johnnie Doyle Trobaugh and Dr. Lowell C. Smith.
A Memorial service will be announced at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations are made to SIFAT. This project is
