A special primary election to fill the Senate District 14 seat has been approved by Gov. Kay Ivey for March 30, 2021.
District 14 includes portions of Chilton, Bibb, Hale, Jefferson and Shelby counties.
The seat was recently vacated by Cam Ward who was appointed to be director of the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles. Ward started this new position on Dec. 7.
If a runoff primary election is needed, it will be held on April 27. The General election has been set for July 13.
“I appreciate Senator Ward agreeing to serve in his new capacity as director of the Bureau of Pardons and Paroles, but it is just as critical to fill the open seat on behalf of the people in Senate District 14,” Ivey said in a press release.
Those wanting to run as a political candidate with one of the major political parties must do so by Jan. 26 at 5 p.m. The deadline for independent candidates and minor parties is March 30 at 5 p.m.
