Chilton County Schools Superintendent Jason Griffin has announced that “all non-athletic school sponsored events that require the use of inside facilities” are being canceled for the time being.
In an official statement released on Nov. 23, Griffin stated “Due to the ongoing health crisis dealing with COVID-19, all non-athletic school sponsored events that require the use of inside facilities will not be considered for approval until further notice. These events include pageants, plays, Blast from the Past and other similar events. We hope to be able to consider these events for approval as the health crisis improves and reschedule these events in the spring and/or summer. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we deal with this health crisis.”
Indoor sports will continue to be played following CDC and AHSAA guidelines.
The Alabama Department of Public Health has Chilton County listed in a moderate risk category. Categories given are low, moderate, high and very high.
Recommendations for this level of risk include maintaining 6 feet from those of other households, wearing a face covering when this is not possible and avoiding groups larger than 50.
Chilton County Schools have had 17 positive COVID-19 cases in the past week, according to ADPH. There have been 151 cases in the last 14 days in Chilton County. In that same time frame, 603 people were tested for the virus.
