The Alabama Agriculture and Exhibition Center Cooperative District held its first meeting on Oct. 21 to select officers and establish bylaws.

The Cooperative District will coordinate operations at the Exit 212 industrial park as the Alabama Farm Center at Centennial Park project continues toward completion and once the facility is up and running.

Representatives for the Board of Directors appointed by the City of Clanton, the Chilton County Commission and the Agricultural Authority serve on the board of the cooperative. Attorneys for each of these entities were also present at the meeting.

During the meeting, David Helfin of Alabama Farmers Federation, representing the Agricultural Authority, was selected as chairman. Bobby Cook, serving for the city, was selected as vice chairman. County Commissioner Matt Mims will be the secretary/treasurer.

There are only three members on the board.

The Cooperative District adopted the corporate seal for the district during the meeting and established that it will meet as needed with notification seven days prior to the meeting day given by the chairman.

The board also hired an attorney to represent the district.

The Alabama Farm Center project is still in the wetlands study phase.
