Ever since former Mayor Billy Joe Driver’s death, several in the community have done their part to remember his historically lengthy tenure in office.

Add Senior Connection to the list of those seeking to pay tribute to the former mayor.

Senior Connection has scheduled for Nov. 16 to be proclaimed Mayor Driver Day in the City of Clanton.

The day was chosen because it was Driver’s birthday.

Driver spent more than 60 years serving the residents of Clanton as mayor and a city councilman.

During that time, he was instrumental in the establishment of Senior Connection at its current location at 304 Park Drive in Clanton.

According to Senior Connection Director Vanessa McKinney, vendors will be allowed to setup a booth or food truck free of charge.

“We would like for all who can to come out and participate,” McKinney said.

Although the event is free, vendors are still being asked to fill out a participation sign up form prior to the event, so proper space and electrical needs can be met.

Registration forms can be found at Senior Connection, and the deadline is Nov. 9. Vendors will be required to supply their own table and electrical cords.

The event will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is also expected to have entertainment for those visiting to enjoy while reminiscing about Driver and the influence he had on a city and its people.

It will be held in the Senior Connection Parking lot. Masks will not be required unless the event moves inside Senior Connection due to rain.

“Let’s come together and celebrate the life our mayor on his birthday,” McKinney said.
