Heavy rains expected as Hurricane Sandy continues to sweep across the state have prompted Chilton County Schools leadership to close school at 1 p.m.
A post on the school system’s Facebook page stated:
“Chilton County Schools will release at 1 p.m. today due to potential flooding. A decision about tomorrow will be made later today.”
CCS Superintendent Jason Griffin said part of the decision was to ensure that school busses could get students home safely.
“A lot of our busses are on very rural roads,” Griffin said.
He said the hurricane shifted a little today to impact further north with heavy rain prompting his decision.
Busses will begin normal dismissal at 1 p.m.
Flooding is a concern, and Chilton County is currently under a flash flood watch and wind advisory.
A decision should be made about whether school will be open tomorrow by 5 p.m. today.
