Hurricane Sally has made landfall and is expected to produce its share of rain for Chilton County.

Although the National Weather Service in Birmingham does not expect Chilton County to receive the double digit amounts of rainfall predicted for the southern part of the state, the county is still in line to have consistent rainfall for a while.

The southern part of Chilton County is expected to get 6 to 8 inches of rain, while Clanton and the northern areas of the county are expected to get 4 to 6 inches.

The predictions have led to the NWS listing Chilton County within a flash flood watch from 7 a.m. Sept. 16 to 7 a.m. Sept. 17.

During the 24-hour period, the brunt of the severe storms is predicted to hit the county from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Sept. 16.

The severe storms are supposed to produce heavy rainfall and the winds are expected to increase to 10-20 mph.

The NWS expects the chance of rain showers to remain extremely high during the day on Sept. 17 even after the flash flood watch is dropped.

Slight chances of showers will remain into the weekend. A reprieve from the rainfall is finally expected to come on Sept. 20.
