Russell Bedsole is the Republican candidate for House District 49 after receiving 51.36% of the vote during the runoff election on Sept. 1.

House District 49 includes portions of Chilton, Bibb and Shelby counties

In Chilton County, Penhale received 55.65% of the vote.

A primary for the Democratic party was not held because Cheryl Patton of Montevallo was the only candidate to qualify for the party. The polls closed at 7 p.m.
The general election will be Nov. 17.
The special election was set to fill the seat of former Rep. April Weaver after she took a position as a regional director of the Department of Health and Human Services by appointment of the Trump administration.
