The Chilton County Tag Office is now fully operational and open to the public.

The department posted the announcement on its Facebook page on July 28. The department had closed when a ransom ware instrusion necessitated the shutdown of the Chilton County government computer network.

Social distancing guidelines are still being observed.

Procedures published by the department prior to the opening detailed that people would need to check in with the clerk and give a cell phone number that the office will call when are they are next. Each person will be given a number that they will need to present after they are called.

“The clerk calling will only call once, according to the department’s statement. “You need to make sure you are watching for your call. We will move on to the next person if you don’t answer. The number that will call you will be 205-990-9327. We don’t answer that phone. It is for calling out only.”

Everyone in line will be required to wait in or near their car until it is their turn. Wearing a mask will be required inside the building to comply with the most recent statewide Safer at Home Order.

“Make sure you bring any and all paperwork you can get to,” the department reminded residents in a social media post. “We will have to move on to next customer if you don’t have everything. On the photo I’m posting on here, it has everything you need.”

The Tag office is open 8 a.m. to noon and 1-4p.m.

“We will only be signing in a limited number of people a day until we see how many we will be able to get to in a day,” according to the statement. “For the amount of days we’ve been closed, we will waive penalties on the July people. Don’t forget if you have a title to do and there are two people on it you need both licenses and both individuals.”
