The Chilton/ Clanton Public Library has found a creative way to offer its annual Summer Reading Program with a mix of in-person and virtual fun.

“This year our Summer Reading theme is ‘Imagine Your Story!’ which encourages children of all ages to read stories of all kinds!” Library Director Bernadette N. Roche said. “There is something for all ages, pre-school-12 (th grade) and adults as well. I like this theme because it empowers people of all ages and abilities to read by developing positive attitudes about reading and books, and it motivates school-aged children to maintain reading skills during summer vacation.”

This year the usual special guest performers will be featured on the library’s Facebook page, rather than the traditional in-person show.

Gene Cordova will be featured on June 16 at 2 p.m., and ventriloquist Ron Lighty will be featured on June 23 at 2 p.m.

“The performers were selected because they have performed at the library previously and were a huge success, so they are being brought back by popular demand!” Roche said. “The performers are free and children do not need to sign up to attend the online performances.”

Performances will be accessible at https://www.facebook.com/ChiltonClantonPublicLibrary/ at the date and time specified.

Each child who registers for the Summer Reading Program at the library’s front desk will receive a book bag.

Participation in all Summer Reading Program activities is free.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the library has limited its hours to 8 a.m. to noon Monday thru Friday.
