April Weaver, former Alabama House Representative for District 49, has been appointed to regional director for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for Region IV by President Donald Trump’s administration.

“I’m honored to have this opportunity to serve our country and to continue my public service in my new position at HHS,” Weaver said in a press release. “I am eager to get to work supporting the initiatives of President Trump and Secretary Azar as well as the mission of the Department of Health and Human Services.”

Weaver recently resigned as Alabama House Representative for District 49, which includes Jemison, in order to accept this position.

“As a presidential appointee, Ms. Weaver provides regional executive leadership as the primary representative for the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Alex Azar. Region IV, based in Atlanta, Georgia, includes the states of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina, and North Carolina,” according to a U.S.  Department of Health & Human Services press release.
