Members of the Chilton County Cattlemen Association got together May 8 in order to give back to local health care providers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cattlemen partnered with the Alabama Cattlemen’s Federation and Peach Park in Clanton in order to deliver 120 hamburger steak meals to staff at St. Vincent’s Chilton hospital.

“We wanted to give back to our health care professionals,” Chilton County Cattlemen’s Association President James Robert Parnell said. “We got together and decided what better way for a cattleman to say, ‘thank you’ than with a hamburger steak lunch?”

According to a release from the organization, “County Cattlemen’s chapters across Alabama are joining in this effort to provide beef meals to health care workers, truck drivers and first responders. Cattlemen in Madison, Colbert, Montgomery, Houston, Limestone, Shelby, Franklin and Jefferson counties are just a few who are doing what they can to serve those who are serve others daily.”

“We are grateful for their hard work and what it does for our community,” said a post on the chapter’s Facebook page.

“It’s just the best way we know to give back,” Alabama Cattlemen’s Association President Larry Reeves of Elba said. “I’m proud to be part of a community of essential workers in agriculture giving back to the heroes of the health care community. I know I’m joined by all Alabama cattlemen when I say I tip my hat to them and their work.”

According to the release, “The Alabama Cattlemen’s Association is a service-based nonprofit organization founded in 1944 and headquartered on Capitol Hill in Montgomery. Producer and member driven, the ACA’s mission is to enhance the business climate of the state’s beef cattle industry, promoting a positive image while educating consumers that beef is a safe, wholesome, nutritious and convenient food product. The Association has county chapters in all 67 counties and represents over 10,000 members statewide. The association is also the qualified state beef council in Alabama.”
