Chilton County Schools released a statement on May 4 announcing that a final decision on dates for graduation and proms was being delayed.
The school system hopes to make a decision on May 18.
However, tentative dates have been released as follows:
– Jemison High School June 6 at Panther Stadium
– Maplesville High School June 9 at Maplesville
– Verbena High School June 10 at Verbena
– Thorsby High School June 11 at Thorsby
– Chilton County High School June 12 at Tiger Stadium
– Isabella High School June 12 at Isabella
All ceremonies are tentatively scheduled for 7 p.m.
With the implementation of a safer-at-home order by Gov. Kay Ivey in effect until May 15, the school system has delayed a final decision.
“Our hope, based on the ongoing health situation, is that we can offer a prom to our students this summer, but at this point, we don’t have a definitive answer,” the release stated. “… If we announce a reschedule of the June graduations, graduations will be rescheduled for the week of July 6-11. Our last option is a virtual graduation. We will address that if public health and safety will not allow us to safely graduate in June or July … Our hope is to reschedule kindergarten graduations in some form during June. We will plan to schedule those the week of June 15-18. Date and time to be determined by individual schools.”
Those with specific questions should contact their student’s principal.
