Bats carry IHS baseball to victories

Isabella’s baseball team picked up its third and fourth wins of the season following a high-powered sweep of Indian Springs March 14.
The Mustangs’ offense was hitting on all cylinders winning Game 1 16-6 and taking care of business 20-1 in Game 2.
IHS trailed 5-1 in Game 1 before a five-run fourth inning put them out in front for the first time.
The Mustangs put the game away for good with nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, which also proved to be enough initiate a run ruling and bring the game to an early end.
Zack Chapman had three RBIs, while Falcon Fowler and Elijah Littlefield drove in two runs apiece.
Braxden Giles, Micah Drinkard and Nick Simmons combined to allow five earned runs, seven hits and two strikeouts.
The result in Game 2 was very similar to the first contest, but the way in which it was achieved was far different.
Instead of waiting a couple of innings to find its groove, Isabella hammered home 13 runs in the first inning and seven more in the second inning.
The Mustangs had five players reach base before their first out to start Game 2.
Due to the fast start, the game only lasted three innings before being officially called with IHS out in front 20-1.
Isabella totaled 18 hits and 14 RBIs in Game 2. Leading the way was Elijah Littlefield and Tyler Simmons, who both went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in three runs in the process.
Tyler Simmons helped kick things off early with a three-run bomb to center field, while Littlefield and Giles both had triples during the contest.
Austin Jones got the start on the mound for IHS and allowed one earned run, one hit and three strikeouts in two innings.
Tyler Simmons came in and struck out two batters in his one inning of relief.
The baseball season is currently suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
