The Alabama Department of Transportation followed suit with other departments throughout the state and announced its plans of operation in lieu of the coronavirus pandemic.
According to an ALDOT press release, the safety of motorists using ALDOT facilities and the transportation network is the department’s top priority, and it is committed to providing essential services while following state and federal guidance.
Restrooms at rest areas will remain open with “deep cleaning” performed on the restrooms each week.
On top of that, the staff at the rest areas will clean and sanitize areas most commonly used, such as door handles, counters, faucets and toilets.
Road projects and construction will continue. This includes bid openings and scheduled projects.
Traffic incidents will still continue to be monitored by ALDOT.
However, all ALDOT meetings involving the public have been postponed until further notice.
Residentswill continue to receive and process permits for work on ALDOT right of way at their local ALDOT offices, and the ALDOT oversize/overweight permit office will continue to accept and process applications for such vehicles on Alabama highways.
