The Eighth Annual Jemison FFA Alumni Chili Supper and cook-off will be held Feb. 8 at the Jemison Municipal Complex from 5-7 p.m.
“The chili supper was started in 2013 as the key fundraiser to fund scholarships for our graduating FFA seniors,” Jemison High School agriscience teacher Clay Mims said.
Alumni events, such as the chili supper, also help pay for convention registrations and competition expenses.
“Without the FFA alumni, the students would not have the opportunities to travel and compete at numerous competitions throughout our district and state,” Mims said.
Tickets to attend the event are $10 per adult and $5 per student, which will include all-you-can-eat chili. All tickets must be purchased at the door on the night of the event.
The chili cook-off entry fee is $20 per entrant in either the adult or student division.
“This year’s goal is to fund six scholarships for graduating FFA seniors,” Mims said. “Over the past few years we have seen participation in the cook-off increase and the crowd increase in size also.”
This year’s chili judges will be former Auburn head football coach Tommy Tuberville, Chilton County Schools Superintendent Jason Griffin, CCS board member Pam Price and Partners Enhancing Education in Chilton County board member Betty Giles.
Chili cook-off participants must be in the Jemison Municipal Complex by 4:30 p.m. to have their chili judged.
The doors will open for the public at 5 p.m. with a silent auction taking place throughout the event.
