VHS replacement bleachers approved

Verbena High School will be getting new bleachers for the home side of the football stadium, following a vote by the Chilton County Board of Education on May 6.
The 4 to 2 vote in favor of awarding the bid to Liberty Construction for $251,000 was made during a special called meeting of the board.
Board president Brian Jackson and members Pam Price, Chris Smith and Angie Sanderson voted in favor. Board members Keith Moore and Jacqueline Sullivan voted against.
Two options were bid for two different sizes. The bid approved was for the smaller number of seats and will accommodate 300.
A number of new hires were approved during the meeting, including a teacher for an additional third-grade class for Clanton Intermediate School, two teachers for existing classrooms at CIS, two teachers for existing classrooms at Clanton Elementary as well as a science teacher and a social science teacher for Chilton County High School.
A science teacher for Jemison High School was hired to replace David Nash, who is resigning effective May 24.
Katelyn Hanson of JHS and Emily Anne Nguyen of JMS is resigning effective May 24.
Sandra Cahalane of CES is retiring effective May 24.
