The Town of Thorsby received a positive audit from Certified Public Accountant Howie McNeill III during its meeting on April 1.
According to McNeill, the results of the audit reflected similarly to previous years.
The town’s business-type assets included water works and sewer, which combined for a net worth of $2.8 million.
“That’s a pretty healthy number for a city of our size,” McNeill said.
The water department revenue exceeded its expenses, while the sewer was vice versa with its expenses exceeding its revenue.
According to McNeill, because there are fewer sewer customers it is difficult to keep up with the expenses.
However, the revenue brought in from the water department helps to cover up the difference.
“I’ve had the same problem with other city clients as well,” McNeill said. “It’s [sewer] an expensive undertaking for everybody.”
The town brought in a total revenue of $1.3 million in governmental funds.
“You guys continue to do well for what you have coming in,” McNeill said.
