The Thorsby Fire Department’s drill field is ready to be the site of future fire training classes.
Thorsby Fire Chief James Conner shared the good news with the Town Council during its meeting on Nov. 19.
Getting the drill field fully operational has been a goal of Conner’s since becoming fire chief several months ago.
According to Conner, the plan is to apply to hold its first class Jan. 28-Feb. 1. The class will deal with fire investigation and will be taught by the Alabama Fire College.
The application process is currently underway.
“We’re just moving forward,” Conner said.
Conner is also working on assembling a countywide arson task force.
“Numerous people have shown interest,” Conner said. “We’ll have more resources and man power in the event of another incident [similar to the Littleton’s fire in Thorsby.]”
The Thorsby Christmas parade will be held on Dec. 1 at 9 a.m.
The town’s annual safety meeting will be held at Neighborhood Grill in Clanton on Dec. 13.
Neal Benson and Marvin Crumpton were unable to attend the meeting, while Public Works Director Terry Jackson was busy working on lining sewer pipe under U.S. 31.
The minutes from the Nov. 5 Council meeting were approved, and it was approved to pay the bills and transfer the funds.
