The Chilton County Sheriff’s Office has recovered $36,000 worth of technology and miscellaneous items that had been stolen from the Verbena High School Annex last week.

The items were stolen on the night of Nov. 13, along with classroom pet Bob the Hamster.

Sheriff John Shearon said a video of the scene showed a license plate, which the department was able to connect to a Pelham residence.

A warrant and search warrant were issued, and the items were recovered at the residence.

“We were able to recover all of the stolen property, even Bob the Hamster,” Shearon said.

Items allegedly from burglaries in Birmingham were also recovered at the scene.

Suspect Mario Derrell Slaughter has not yet been arrested.

“We have warrants on him, so he will be picked up eventually,” Shearon said.

After the items were recovered, the CCSO coordinated a happy reunion between the students and their classroom pet.

“We went back on Thursday and presented (the hamster) to them, and the kids went crazy (with excitement),” Shearon said.

Shearon said he appreciated the work of his investigative team and support from the Pelham and Clanton police departments on this case.
