Maplesville 49,
Lamar County 28
The Red Devils opened up a 14-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and 28-12 at halftime.
The Red Devils had a big night with 466 total yards of offense, 318 of which came on the ground.
Ryan Morrow led the rushing attack with 165 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries, while Christin Brown also surpassed the century mark with 117 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 16 carries.
Together the two backs created an explosive tandem, as they have all season.
Jackson Abbott completed 12 of 19 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown to Jakavian Mckenzie.
Abbott spread the ball around to six different receivers, but Mckenzie was his favorite target with four catches for 40 yards and the score.
All four Lamar County touchdowns were of the passing variety.
Maplesville’s Timothy Bradley had a sack in the game.
The Red Devils will host Sweet Water in an anticipated first round matchup on Nov. 9.
Alexandria 42,
Chilton County 35
Alexandria grabbed the lead with a touchdown with 59 seconds left in the game.
However, Chilton County (4-6) missed out on an opportunity for a potential game-winning drive after failing to recover the ensuing pooched kickoff.
CCHS was able to put points on the board thanks to a powerful rushing attack led by Devonte Robinson who fell just shy of 100 yards in the game.
SkiKeem Laister also finished with 126 passing yards.
“It seems like he’s coming on with his confidence in the passing game,” Chilton County head coach Tal Morrison said.
However, it was a struggle all night to slow down the Alexandria offense.
According to Morrison, that side of the ball is something that will be addressed prior to the Tigers’ first round game on the road against Jackson (7-3) on Nov. 9.
CCHS made the nearly two-hour road trip to Alexandria and will make another lengthy trip to Jackson.
“It gives you a dress rehearsal for the playoffs,” Morrison said.
