The 2018 version of the Thorsby Swedish Festival was met with high praise by the Town Council members during its meeting on Oct. 15.

Councilman Marvin Crumpton told Public Works Superintendent Terry Jackson “the [Richard Wood] park looked good.”

According to Thorsby Police Chief Rodney Barnett, the parade and festivities went smoothly. He had heard no complaints.

Thorsby Fire Chief James Conner informed the Council of the results of the live fire training instructor class that the department held.

Nine participants completed the class, including three from Thorsby. Jemison, Clanton, Prattville and Eclectic were some of the various areas represented.

The Thorsby Police Department sold a patrol car to the Maplesville Police Department for $8,000 and has another that will be ready to sell soon.

In other news from the meeting:

• Paperwork has been delayed on the demolition of the old school building. The plans and specifications have been approved for about 60 days. The hopes are to advertise in a couple of weeks.
• The Thorsby Fire Department will be housing the mobile driver simulator Oct. 29-Nov. 1. Conner invited the Council members to come and take part to see what it is like to drive a fire truck through simulation.
• Jackson informed the Council that the insurance company paid the town about $4,400 and told the town to keep the 1988 Ford dump truck that had a fire in its dashboard. The Council approved Jackson’s request to place the truck on govdeals.com to see what they could get for it.
• The minutes from the Oct. 1 Council meeting were approved.
• It was approved to pay the bills and transfer the funds.
