Thorsby continued its current roll with a 22-12 road victory against Isabella (3-2) in a non-region game on Sept. 28.

Christian Fortner threw two touchdowns and also ran for a score, as the Rebels (6-0) jumped out to a 22-6 lead at halftime.

Tyler Jackson caught both touchdown passes from 45 and 10 yards out respectively.

His second touchdown reception capped a Thorsby drive with 56 seconds left in the first half, which extended the lead to two possessions.

“We knew that it [scoring before the half] would be huge,” Thorsby senior Cole Farris said. “Our offensive and defensive lines both played big tonight. They helped out a lot.”

The Isabella defense made some adjustments at halftime and held the Rebels scoreless in the second half.

However, the Thorsby defense also stood strong and limited the big plays by the Mustangs.

“They [Isabella] were on it in the second half, but we stuck with it,” Farris said. “If it wasn’t for our defense, it would have been a different game.”

The difference in the game was the vertical passing, which the Rebels were able to take advantage of while Isabella was unable to consistently connect on the shots that it took down field.

One of Isabella’s deep balls resulted in a Sawyer Sellers interception and a Thorsby takeaway.

Cole Atchison scored both touchdowns on the ground for the Mustangs.

Isabella had chances in the fourth quarter to cut further into the lead and mount a serious comeback, but the Mustangs turned the ball over on downs twice in the game’s waning moments.

The win was the third of the season for the Rebels against a county opponent.
