Raleigh’s Place is planning a pair of fundraising events over the next couple of months.

The first event is the annual Celebration scheduled for Oct. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Clanton Conference and Performing Arts Center.

Celebration is free admission and will have a silent auction, raffles, a prize wheel and food available for those in attendance.

“It has traditionally been one of our biggest fundraisers,” Raleigh’s Place co-founder Sharon King said.

According to King, Celebration has been going on for roughly a decade, and it has continued to grow in size during that time.

It has been held at the Clanton Conference and Performing Arts Center for the past couple of years after outgrowing previous locations that included Thorsby First Baptist and Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Clanton.

A new fundraiser for this year will be the Christmas Whistle-stop, which will take place over three days, Nov. 15-17, on site at Raleigh’s Place located at 346 County Road 1028 in Clanton.

“The facility has grown a lot,” King said. “We have a lot more kids coming to camp, so we have to raise a lot more funds.”

Booths that take part in the Christmas showcase will pay $25 to setup and also donate 10 percent of their sales to help the efforts at Raleigh’s Place.

King hopes that having Christmas Whistle-stop on the Raleigh’s Place property will allow residents to get a first-hand look at what their donations are supporting.

“It gives people a chance to see it, and bring more awareness that we’re out there,” King said. “It all goes back to help pay for the kids.”

Despite the events being about a month apart, King said that they would both offer a different experience for those attending.

Holiday gifts and crafts will be available, along with homemade fudge and sweets made by some of the children at Raleigh’s Place.

Sharon and Tim King founded Raleigh’s Place as a Christ-centered foster care ministry in the mid 2000s.

The slogan of the ministry is “Living the Gospel by Loving the Fatherless.”
