Donna’s Dancers and Tammie’s Twirlers will be hosting registration for this year’s group of girls on Aug. 14, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the dance studio (formerly known as Ms. Dot’s) located on Highway 191 in Jemison.
Participants are grouped by ages, starting at 18 months old. Younger children will learn tap, ballet and baton twirling in their classes, while older children will primarily focus on jazz dance and baton twirling.
Tammie McGriff of Tammie’s Twirlers said practice is once a week for about one hour.
Dancers and twirlers perform at numerous events throughout the year.
“We perform at different things, like Swedish Festival, and we have a Christmas recital and a spring fashion show — and then we have a May, end-of-the-year recital,” McGriff said.
McGriff said the group is featured at Jemison and Thorsby Christmas parades, and is sometimes additionally invited to perform at other events, such as beauty pageants.
Joining Donna’s Dancers and Tammie’s Twirlers can allow for valuable life lessons and experiences, McGriff added.
“We’ll help them to learn more and to be in front of an audience and be on stage,” McGriff said. “And, of course, they make friends and learn to take turns — all that good stuff. Because that’s a part of growing up.”
Registration is $25 per child.
Monthly fees are $25 per child or $35 for sisters. Fees are due the first of each month.
Batons are $20.
Checks can be made to Donna Ellison or Tammie McGriff.
