After a severe thunderstorm with powerful straight winds swept through Chilton County on June 28, Chilton residents were among 32,400 Alabama Power customers affected with notable power outages in central Alabama.

Approximately 1,500 customer power outages were initially reported in Chilton County by 6 p.m. the same night, ultimately reducing to 20 customers affected by 4 p.m. the following day, according to an Alabama Power press release.

The storm left mostly downed limbs in its wake, causing no major damages to Chilton residents or property, according to Sheriff John Shearon of the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office.

The initial 32,400 customer power outages in central Alabama were reportedly down to 4,250 by 4 p.m.

Lowndes, Dallas and Butler Counties rank among the most affected remaining areas, with 600-930 customers still out of power.

Statewide, approximately 26,000 customers remain out of power at this time.

“Crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore service,” according to Mike Keith of Alabama Power.”
