Although the approval of Sylvia Singleton as county administrator was the big news from the Chilton County Commission meeting on May 14, there were plenty of other discussions that took place.
Chilton/Clanton Public Library Director Savannah Kitchens and library bookkeeper Darlene Brock requested an increase of $15,000 in library funding in order to hire a part-time employee and extend its hours of operation.
Chairman Allen Caton informed them that the budget had already been balanced for the year, and therefore the money had already been designated out.
Caton advised them to make a request and revisit it during budget hearings for the 2019 budget.
The library staff currently consists of seven employees, three full-time and four part-time.
According to Kitchens, the library is looking to extend its hours to accommodate people getting home from work.
The library is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday. It is closed Saturday and Sunday.
The commission also agreed to work on completing 10 pages of the policies and procedures handbook per work session until it is finished.
The first of such meetings will be May 21 at 6 p.m. All work sessions are open to the public.
