The inaugural Blackberry Pageant sponsored by the Jemison Lions Club is scheduled for 2 p.m. on May 19 at the Jemison High School auditorium.
Contestants ages 3 to 18 will compete in five categories: Tiny, Little, Young, Junior and Miss.
Tickets are $5 at the door.
Programs can be purchased for $1 each.
Miss Blackberry will be awarded a scholarship, in addition to the traditional crown and sash.
“We’re wanting to grow to become a strong, county pageant,” Diane Calloway of the Jemison Lions Club said. “And, of course, the proceeds will promote the things we promote.”
The Jemison Lions Club was chartered in March 2017 to support service projects in the Jemison community. It is the first service group to organize in Jemison, according to Rex Bittle of the Jemison Lions Club.
The pageant was created to complement the annual Black and Blue Berry Festival at Petals from the Past, set for June 9.
The pageant queens will be featured at the festival.
