Jemison, Thorsby and Isabella are each four wins away from a state title in the schools’ respective classes.

All three teams advanced to the 2018 AHSAA State Softball Tournament following multiple victories in regional competition.

Jemison defeated Valley, Beauregard and Demopolis in its run through the loser’s bracket before avenging a loss to Shelby County with an 8-5 victory.

Shelby Crowson sent the Panthers to the next round with a three-run shot in the top of the seventh inning that broke a 5-all tie and put Jemison in front for good.

The Panthers will play Rehobeth in the first round of the state tournament at 10:45 a.m. on May 16.

Thorsby and Isabella each got off to excellent starts and took the preferred route of the winner’s bracket as a result.

However, both teams needed a win following losses in the third round of the regional bracket.

The Rebels defeated Collinsville 11-10 with a successful comeback that included three runs in the seventh inning that did double damage by erasing Thorsby’s deficit and putting them out in front.

Peyton McManus was a catalyst in the Thorsby effort going 3-for-5 with two RBIs in the game. Abby and Ashley Cleckler both joined McManus with a pair of runs driven in against Collinsville.

Thorsby will face Mars Hill Bible School at 10:45 a.m. on May 18.

Isabella and Maplesville met once again during a regional elimination game with a trip to the state tournament on the line.

The two teams played each other three times in one day during the area tournament and were very familiar with each other heading into the matchup.

However, on this occasion it was the Mustangs that were clicking on all cylinders with a 14-4 win over the Red Devils in five innings.

The game was tilted in Isabella’s favor following an 11-run second inning that was fueled by a trio of Maplesville errors, all of which came with two outs on the scoreboard.

Kristin Wilson had a seamless game at the plate for Isabella going 4-for-4 with five RBIs.

With the win, the Mustangs will take on Brantley at 9 a.m. on May 16.

All games in the 2018 State Softball Tournament will be played at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.
