Local schools compete in track and field sectionals

Track and field teams from across Chilton County competed in sectional competitions April 27 and April 28 at Paul Bryant High School in Tuscaloosa with an opportunity at hand to compete for a state title next weekend.
Despite fierce competition, several local athletes will get that opportunity for a state title next week while representing their home schools.
With a time of 52.38, the Maplesville High School ladies 4 x 100-meter relay team finished second in the sectionals while qualifying for the state finals.
Isabella’s boys 4 x 100-meter relay team turned in a time of 45.97, fast enough to place third on the day while also qualifying the team for state.
Janiya Moore and Shaveon Dunlap will represent Maplesville in the ladies 1A 100m dash as well as the 200 meters in next weeks finals.
Maplesville’s Nathaniel Watson and Isabella’s Jaqarise Stacy finished first and second in both the boys 1A 100-meter finals and 200 meters and qualify to compete for a state championship in each. Stacy also won the 1A long jump with a leap of 6.29m and will go on to compete at next week’s finals.
John Callens turned in a 100 meter time of 11.58 and will represent Billingsley in the 2A state finals next week. He also finished second in the 200 meters and will run for a shot at a state championship in that event as well.
Chaz Morris will represent Maplesville High school in the state finals of the 1A 300 meter hurdles.
Jarred Campbell and Willie Washington each broke the 13-meter mark and will represent Isabella High School in the state finals of 1A shot put, while teammate Katelyn Smitherman will join them to compete in the girls’ discus.
Chilton County’s Mondez Jones finished another meet in first place in the javelin, while teammate Gage Minor finishedsecond. Both will compete for a state title.
Smitherman brought home first place in the girls’ 1A javelin with a throw of 30.78m and will represent Isabella at state.
Synia Chattman and Kiara Ford each qualified for the Mustangs to compete in the finals of the 1A girls triple jump.
Billingsley will be represented well in the girls’ 2A shot put state finals, as Spencer Simpson took home first place at the sectional event with a throw of 9.49m. Teammate Aubree Duldey will join her after bringing home third with a throw of 8.69m.
Isabella’s Cole Atchison had a first place finish in the boys 1A javelin with a distance of 49.93m and will represent the Mustangs next week.
Track and field state finals begin on Wednesday, May 2, and will run into the weekend. Locations for these events vary depending on classification.
