Maplesville bests CCHS for third time

Maplesville softball wasted no time asserting itself on the road against Chilton County during an 8-6 victory April 12.
The game could not have started much better for the Red Devils, as they batted around and scored six runs in the top of the first inning.
All nine Maplesville batters reached base in the game, while Karley Smitherman, Caitlin Burnett, Macey James and Laci Cook each had two hits.
The big opening inning was fueled by errors in the field by CCHS. Both teams ended with four errors apiece.
Of the seven Maplesville runs that were scored during the four innings CCHS starter Emma Deason pitched, only two of those were earned runs.
CCHS responded with three runs of its own in the second inning and continued to slowly chip away at the lead from then on.
However, Maplesville’s Kaylee Wright settled into a groove and polished off a complete game performance.
Maplesville out-hit the Tigers 12-10.
Hope Watts had the standout performance at the plate for CCHS, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. She was a major reason why the Tigers were able to cut into the large lead that the Red Devils had established.
Maplesville got the best of CCHS on the softball field in 2018. The Red Devils swept the season series against the Tigers, winning all three matchups.
