The Chilton County and Thorsby baseball teams each earned area victories April 3 against Selma and Billingsley respectively.
The Tigers crushed Selma at home 19-2, while the Rebels blanked the Bears 11-0 on the road.
Both teams scored in every inning played during the contests with the long ball making a difference.
Gabriel Gray stuffed the stat sheet with six RBIs for CCHS, four of which came as a result of a grand slam to center field in the fourth inning.
Peyton Carroll and Cain Niece each homered for Thorsby as the Rebels methodically extended the lead to the point of no return for Billingsley.
However, it was not only the offense that played a role in the final outcomes, but also the pitching staffs.
Neither team allowed an earned run, as both starting pitchers did their part to baffle opposing hitters.
Thorsby’s Tanner Jones threw a five-inning complete game with nine strikeouts, while William Kohn of CCHS struck out eight in four innings.
Two hits were the most that either starter surrendered in their game.
Despite the ball flying out of the yard, both teams also showcased its share of speed on the base paths.
Eight different Rebels stole a base against Billingsley, and the Tigers had four of their own successfully swipe bags against Selma.
With the blowout wins, CCHS opened area play on a high note, and Thorsby improved to 2-0 in its area.
