The Thorsby Rebels got back into the swing of things toward the end of its spring break by splitting a pair of games during the Gordo Invitational on March 30.
The Rebels started the day with a 7-3 victory over Hatton thanks to four runs in the final two innings.
Four batters finished with multiple hits in the game and were led by Tanner Jones who went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a triple.
Peyton Carroll and Tyler Jackson also each drove in a pair of RBIs.
With the game tied at 3-all and two innings to play, Thorsby made those innings count as Grayson Bice and Landon Bowden scored on an error in the sixth.
Carroll and Jones each drove in one of their runs as insurance in the seventh inning.
Tucker Patterson earned the victory with five strong innings, where he allowed three earned runs on four hits while striking out five.
Bice entered the game in relief and held Hatton scoreless in the final two innings to seal the victory.
Riding high after the win, Thorsby was unable to manufacture the same success in the second game of the day. The Rebels lost 8-1 to host Gordo.
Thorsby lost handily despite outhitting Gordo 11-9. The difference in the contest was Gordo’s ability to move runs home once on the base paths.
The Rebels left nine runners on base in the game, and their lone run came in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single from Jackson that scored Carroll.
Cain Niece made his presence known on the base paths with a 3-for-4 outing at the top of the order that included a stolen base.
It was an up and down game for Trent Jones on the mound. He allowed six earned runs on eight hits to go along with five strikeouts and three walks in a little more than four innings of work.
