Teen Tuesdays at the Chilton/Clanton Public Library took on an Easter twist as students made dioramas with Peeps and other Easter candy and craft supplies.
“For Teen Tuesdays, we really like to do hands-on projects and projects involving food,” library director Savannah Kitchens said.
She said the project has been popular at other libraries, and she wanted to bring it to Clanton.
Logan Robertson transformed a yellow Peep into Pikachu from one of his favorite video games, Pokémon.
Robertson used tiny red pompoms for the cheeks and triangles of craft foam for the ears. A light blue Peep became the Pokémon Ducklett.
He said it had been a while since he ate a Peep. His favorite Easter candy is Easter Egg bubble gum.
Robertson also created a Pokéball out of a large red pompom and paint.
Ali Robertson chose to dedicate her diorama to another holiday — Christmas.
She used bunny Peeps as characters around Santa surrounded by Christmas lights made of pipe cleaners and pompoms.
Even Kitchens got in on the fun by making a scene from a Harry Potter book.
“I love Harry Potter, and it was something I thought I could do,” Kitchens said.
Her favorite Easter candy is Cadbury Creme Eggs.
Modeling clay was also on hand for students to use. Kitchens said the clay dried hard, so that the scene would remain intact.
The food theme will continue for Teen Tuesdays in April has the library hosts a cupcake decorating contest.
“The winning cupcake design gets a free young adult book,” Kitchens said.
