The Chilton County High School golf program has produced its share of talented players in recent years.
One of those is Madison Sanders, who is in the midst of her sophomore season at Shorter University in Rome, Georgia.
Sanders is beginning to make a name for herself in year two and placed in an event for the first time at the college level with a second place individual finish during the Badger Invitational hosted by Spring Hill College in Mobile on Feb. 26-27.
The runner-up performance earned her all-tournament honors and helped Shorter finish second in the overall team competition as well.
Sanders posted a score of 229 over three rounds. She shot 81 to open the tournament followed by 73 in round two and 75 to close things out strong in the final round.
Adding to the magic of Sanders’ career-low was the fact that it came with her nursing a strained muscle in her shoulder.
“I finally feel like I’ve accomplished what I’ve been working toward,” Sanders said.
According to Sanders, the time she spent playing as a member of the boys’ team at CCHS helped in her transition to the college game, especially when it comes to her distance off the tee.
The Shorter University golf program is part of the Gulf South Conference and competes in NCAA Division II.
