Billingsley wins, keeps pace in area

The Billingsley Bears basketball program picked up some big area wins at home against Fayetteville on Jan. 22.

Both the girls and boys varsity teams won their third game in area play on the season, and did so in demanding fashion.

The girls set the tone for the night with a 53-40 victory, while the boys kept the momentum going and followed it up with a 61-27 win.

Raymond Cutler led the Bears in scoring with a 23-point performance, while Brisen Tatum added 17 points.

The Bears looked good in front of its home crowd, where it hopes to be playing in front of once again, as host of the county tournament.

With only a couple of games left in area play, each team in Area 9-2A is fighting for better positioning in the final area standings.

Billingsley’s boys have an area record of 3-2 and are currently looking up in the standings at Thorsby (4-0), while the girls improved to 3-1 with the win and are in a battle with Fayetteville (3-0) for the top spot when its all said and done.
