Freezing temperatures are in store for Chilton County this weekend, beginning early morning Jan. 13 with a low of 25 degrees, according to the National Weather Service Birmingham.
While there has been talk of winter weather potential, Meteorologist Jason Holmes of NWS Birmingham said the system forecasted for tonight will stay north of Birmingham.
Nevertheless, Chilton County will be very cold and windy this weekend.
Overnight breezes on Jan. 12 will feature 10- to 20-mph northwest winds, ushering in the low temperatures on Jan. 13, which is forecast to have mostly sunny skies and a high temperature of 41 degrees.
“It’s not rising much during the day,” Holmes said. “Northwest winds will stay breezy, 10 to 15 mph.”
“Tomorrow night,” Holmes said of Jan. 13, “mostly clear and quite cold. The low will be 21. North winds will be calming down to 5 to 10 mph.”
Jan. 14 will feature sunny skies “but still cold,” reaching only a high of 42 degrees.
Winds will maintain breezes of 5 to 10 mph into the night, with temperatures dropping to about 23 degrees.
Jan. 15 will begin to warm Chilton County with sunny skies and a high of 51 degrees.
Residents are urged to keep updated on the forecast for early next week.
“We’re watching a next system start to come in late Monday night or Tuesday [Jan. 15 or Jan. 16], and we may be cold enough to see some winter weather even down in your area,” Holmes said.
“Definitely just stay tuned to the forecast for early next week.”
