M4A to host soup cook-off

As fall takes hold and the weather begins to cool, what better way to get warm and comfortable than with a bowl of soup?
With this in mind, M4A is hosting the Soup-er Feeding Frenzy Cook-off at Senior Connection on Oct. 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A variety of delicious soups and breads will be available for those in attendance to sample and enjoy.
Tickets for the event are $15 and people can eat as much soup as they want. Soup bowls specialized for the event can be purchased for $10.
M4A is a state-funded organization dedicated to assisting senior citizens of Middle Alabama, which includes Chilton County and four other counties.
The goal of the event is to bring about awareness and help in the fight to end senior hunger.
A live auction is scheduled for noon, where a variety of Chilton County’s best food items will be able to be bid on. All proceeds from the event will be used to help feed these seniors.
According to M4A executive director Carolyn Fortner, there are over 175 senior citizens in need of home delivered meals in Chilton County and 10,000 Americans are turning 65 or older each day.
“That’s a tremendous responsibility,” Fortner said. “We look to provide a home delivered meal, and also a friendly face.”
Loneliness can become a problem among shut-ins or people who are cut off from the world outside their home. This is also known as social isolation, Fortner said.
