Margaret Lowery Salter

Margaret Lowery Salter, age 88 of Clanton, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 3 in Newnan, Georgia. She was born on Sept. 25, 1929 in Tuscaloosa.

Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband, Herbert Tillman Salter, Jr. They were married for 61 years at the time of his passing in 2014.

She is predeceased by her parents, James Gaston and Leota Lowery, and her sisters, Jean Lowery Bramlett (Morris) and Barbara Lowery Statham (Vernon).

Margaret is survived by her daughters, Suzanne (Darrell) Brooks and Sharon (Larry) Liebe of Newnan, Georgia; her son, Bert (Christa) Salter of Rockford,; her grandchildren, Rachel and Madison of Hoover, Ben Salter of Auburn, Melissa and Meredith Brooks and Christopher Liebe, all of Newnan, Georgia, Lauren Liebe of Auburn, and Tara Liebe Benvie (Brian) of Marietta, Georgia; great grandchild, Ryleigh Benvie of Marietta, Georgia; her sister, Carolyn Lowery Edwards (Cary, d) of Bessemer; her brother, James Lowery (Lynda) of Heflin; her sister-in-law, Sara Jean Jennings (Wallace, d) of Hueytown and Edna Salter (Benton, d) of Jamestown, Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who regularly attended events for her children and grandchildren. She was retired from Bellsouth.

She was involved in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Presbyterian Women of the Church, Hemerocallis Garden Club and various Bridge Clubs. Her favorite hobbies included sewing and cooking.

Margaret was a member of Grace Fellowship Church in Clanton. She and Herb were honored for their service and faithfulness with the naming of Salter Hall at the church. She shared a love for Auburn sports with Herb. She was a member of the Chilton County Auburn Club and enjoyed traveling with friends in the Peach Pickers RV camping club.

Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 5 from 5-7 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home, 1300 4th Avenue North, Clanton, AL 35045. Funeral service will be Friday, Oct. 6 at 11 a.m. at Martins with burial in Chilton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Grace Fellowship PCA building Fund – Salter Hall – 1208 4th Avenue North, Clanton, AL 35045.
