VHS principal sweeps Thorsby halls after defeat

A bet was settled on Monday morning at Thorsby High School, when Verbena principal Todd Davis paid the school a visit and did some janitorial work.

As “janitor for a day,” Davis spent some time in the morning sweeping the Thorsby halls as a response to the Rebels defeating the Red Devils 48-0 on Sept. 15.

“It didn’t end up the way I wanted it too,” Davis said.

The two principals, who are good friends, came up with the idea prior to the game and Davis fulfilled the agreement as the loser of the deal.

“All of us have coached together or coached against each other for 12 to 15 years,” Davis said. “We’re all friends, but you would really like to especially beat your friends at any type of game. If we’re going to play Jacks, I want to win.”

According to Thorsby principal Corey Clements, he watched the majority of the game next to Davis and the two were enjoying the action as both principals and fans.

“I was kind of needling him a little bit, and when it got a little more comfortable I told him that ‘I would see him Monday morning,’” Clements said. “I don’t how much it affected the kids, but it was something that the grownups could enjoy.”

The two have full intentions of coming up with another wager for next year’s football contest between the schools.
