It was a time for celebration and reminiscing as 37 students graduated from Maplesville High School on May 25.

During her valedictorian speech, Megan Weaver recounted stories of how this graduating class had always liked to do things their own way. Whether it was eating glue as kindergarteners, making sandwiches in a high school history class or climbing a mountain, Weaver said there were many memorial moments.

“Our class is unique. We don’t always do things the conventional way,” Weaver said. “We did what felt right to us.”

She encouraged the graduates “to continue to embrace your inner self and those quirks about you.”

She said these were the things that kept the world from being boring.

Weaver also thanked her mom for her support.

“Without you, I wouldn’t be where I am today, and I’m forever grateful,” Weaver said.

Fellow valedictorian Brinley Carter thanked the MHS faculty and staff for being supportive and “putting up with” the graduating class.

“We experienced it all, so never forget this place or the people we call home,” Carter said.

Salutatorian Thaddeus Hunter said he wouldn’t trade his time at Maplesville High School “to be anywhere else in the world.”

“I know we had our faults. Things got broken, it happens, we apologize,” Hunter said. “We are not a perfect class, but we did our best.”

He said until graduation day, it was hard to imagine a time when he would be finished with high school.

“I’m glad as a class we can step out with just a little more responsibility,” Hunter said.

He thanked all of those who had been a part of the journey to a successful graduation.
