Thorsby opens garbage can bids

Thorsby continues to take steps in updating the town’s trash pickup services.
The Town Council approved for Mayor Robert Hight to begin taking bids on garbage cans. This comes two meetings after the Council approved the purchase of a 2010 garage truck on April 3.
Hight will collect the bids and present them to the rest of the Council members at a future meeting date.
The council also approved an agreement with the Department of Transportation to monitor the maitenence and upkeep of the town’s traffic lights.
In other news from the meeting, the Council:
- Approved permission for First Baptist Church of Thorsby to close a section of Summit Street on Sunday mornings.
- Approved the hiring Nick Watley as a part-time employee with the Fire Department.
- Approved Randolph Montoya as a volunteer fireman with the Fire Department.
- Movies in the Park are scheduled for each Friday in June. However, the movies that will be playing have yet to be determined.
- Approved the minutes from the previous meeting on April 17.
- Approved the bills and transferred the funds.
